URI (Upper Respiratory Infection)
October 25, 2016

An upper respiratory infection, also known as U.R.I., is contracted by dogs and cats due to airborne pathogens commonly seen in shelters but can also be picked up in any environment where there are large gatherings of dogs and cats. U.R.I.’s can be passed between like species for example, dog to dog or cat to cat. Symptoms include but not limited to; watery eyes, nasal and ocular discharge and sneezing. By keeping your pet up to date with annual exams and vaccinations it can help prevent contraction of some common infections. Also, when adopting a new kitten/cat or puppy/dog, have them examined upon adoption.
